We were delighted to have Tom Brittney return to school to talk with our students about his career journey and then run a workshop for Year 10 and Year 12 students. Tom went on from Colyton to study at Exeter College and then Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. He currently has the lead role in ITV’s detective drama, Grantchester.

He spoke to a group of students at lunch in the library answering plenty of questions, which included describing his favourite part of the job being storytelling. Coming back to school, he reflected that he always used to do a backflip on the front lawn of school. He wanted to entertain people from an early age! He also spoke about people he would love to work with, one of them being the late Robin Williams. He has been lucky to realise one of his ambitions already – working with Tom Hanks and he is now working with Dame Judy Dench.

Tom met with Mr House, Mr Stidwell and Mr Smith, some of his teachers. He brought with him scripts from Grantchester which the students worked through and brought to life, whilst Tom directed and gave them some suggestions.

We are extremely grateful for Tom’s time. Our alumni bring such a wealth of knowledge with them, and our students react so positively to having visitors who started their journey in their school.
