Riptide Racing - Regional Champions
Riptide Racing - Regional Champions

F1 in Schools is an international STEM competition in which students create a 1:20th scale F1 car and race it.

Last Friday, two of Colyton's F1 in Schools teams (Velocity Raptors and Riptide Racing) went to Bath to compete in the regionals.

This year we decided to enter two teams. There are three possible categories that could have been entered: Professional, Development or Entry. We entered one team in Entry class and one in Development class. The competition was very strong this year with 14 teams in Entry and 21 in Development class.

Colyton entered its second ever all girls team into the Entry class this year. ‘Velocity Raptors’ with their distinctive red uniform were nominated for the 'Future Stars' award and got second fastest car in class.

Also, this year we entered a team into Development class. ‘Riptide Racing’ with their sparkling hats were nominated and won Best Team Identity and Best Engineered car, they were also nominated for Best Pit Display. Amazingly, despite being a young team among a large entry list of over 40 teams, Riptide Racing came first overall, making them Regional Champions in Development class. This means that the team have been invited to attend the Nationals later on this month. We wish them the best of luck competing in the Nationals Final.

Congratulations to both teams for their competition achievements, dedication and teamwork.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported the teams including donating towards the costs involved allowing them the opporunity to get to the event.

If anyone (or their business) would like to sponsor Riptide Racing as they represent the South West in the F1 National Finals please donate here or to discuss a specific gift please contact Mrs Lizzie Mayne, Development and Fundraising Manager; lmayne@colytongrammar.com
